The very talented Hmong hill tribe people of northern Thailand are famous for
their hand made hemp and cotton products, especially their patchwork blankets.
Most blankets are made from recycled skirts and other items of clothing. The Hmong people make new clothing for their New Year festival, which falls in December or January each year, depending on the phase of the moon.
Because they like to wear a new skirt at each festival, the skirts which were made for the previous year's festival are recycled and made into blankets and bags.
Each blanket is unique, featuring different colors, patterns and designs, and they are quite heavy, weighing around 1.7 kg, or 3 3/4 pounds.
Dimensions vary between individual items, but the usual size is about 80" by 70", enough to cover a queen size bed. Other sizes can be produced if necessary, large enough to suit a king size bed, or small enough for a baby cot.
Apart from making very attractive and warm bed covers, the blankets are also used as furniture covers and wall hangings.
Whatever they are used for, they will become the focal point of any room, and will be appreciated for many years.
Our range of hill tribe blankets is available to the retail and wholesale buyer.
