Wat Loy Kroh artwork

Thailand, like many of the Asian countries,  has been blessed with some very talented artists.
The best place to see the best of Thai art is to look in any of the more than 100 temples, or wats, in the Chiang Mai area.
One very popular temple is Wat Loy Kroh, which is in Loy Kroh Road, between the moat and the Night Bazaar Road.

"In ancient times this temple was called Wat Hoi Khor. It was constructed by the sixth King of the Mengrai dynasty, and so is more than 500 years of age.
After the Burmese had been driven out of Chiang Mai towards the end of the eighteenth century,
the city was deserted for twenty years. When Prince Kawila came to reconstruct the city, he brought in many people from other regions. Immigrants from Chiang Sean settled around this temple.
The chedi and wiharn were designed in local Lanna style."

*From     chiangmainews.com     a very informative website loaded with good information about Chiang Mai and the surrounding area.

The following photos were taken in a building which was being demolished, not far from the main temple. Seemed a shame to see the beautiful artwork on the walls of this building lost forever in the name of progress, so I photographed them while I had the chance.

Footnote :    I walked past the temple today and the building which was home to the above artwork has been totally demolished.

Following photos were taken inside the main temple building :
